Ian Rothwell’s radio show: Interviews with Dr Jocelynne Scutt, myself and Kris Gibson

Featuring latest developments in the long running battle to put right the injustice to 3.5m 50sborn women who faced delayed pensions

Australian former anti discrimination commissioner and judge Dr Jocelynne Scutt

The CEDAWinLaw organisation, which backs full implementation of the UN Convention for ending all discrimination against women and girls, has put up links to the interviews this week on Salford City Radio’s Ian Rothwell show. These reveal the latest move towards getting mediation for the 50s women who faced a six year extra wait to get their pensions.

Mel Stride, the work and pensions secretary has refused any mediation so tougher action is being considered and legal advice has been sought. The link to the website is here.

Worth watching developments over the next coming weeks. Doesn’t look like anyone is going away. Meanwhile the number of 50swomen who have died without getting any compensation has reached over 300,000.

  1. Dishonesty and illegal behaviour by people in positions of authority or power is rife here in the UK. These people care only about their own interests and will go to any lengths to protect themselves. There is no accountability in this grubby corrupt country. I found out the hard way how dishonest the NHS is at Derbyshire NHS Trust along with their equally corrupt solicitor from Weightmans and bogus expert hired guns Prof Daniel Wilcox and Mike Drayton. The system is designed to protect one another. Its open corruption:

Suppression of dissent by Derbyshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust: a threat to democracy that puts all patients at risk

  2. Dear David and ladies

Thank you for including me in on this email and I have just listened to Jas once again explain why the discrimination continues against 50’s born women.

That the Supreme Court has escaped disgracefully, after shutting down our right to be heard, and already pre-approved to do so on ALL grounds, but headed-up by the known misogynist Reed.

Yet again highlighting the test case of Lily Leadbetter, whose ‘out of time’ situation was found to be farcical as every time she was paid her monthly salary, her employers were once again discriminating against her thus her discrimination was judged by the Court as repeatedly re-ignited – never out of time, she was paid less compared to male colleagues.

In my own case, as other 50’s born in receipt of their State Pension, I guess every time we had to wait a week or a month extra in those 5 delayed years of non-pension payment, we were also repeatedly discriminated against by the UK Government.

How come is it that hardly any MPs in Parliament see these gross inequalities? How did Major have the temerity to state that SPA was increased ‘for equality’?

No one in Parliament is adding our cause to the long list of other causes such as Cost of Living crisis, immigrant problem, NHS, support for Israel in Gaza…etc etc etc.

Dr Scutt has done an amazing job of de-complicating the argument for recognising our discriminatory cause again and again. David has helped publicise our case over and over. Still doors are shut in our faces.

I was lucky to have had cancer…..lucky because I had long term sickness benefits during a time when otherwise I might have found hot-desking at work and leaving home 7am daily too much for me to keep a roof over my head up to age 66 – my revised SPA. Never mind that we know mens’ life expectancy has been increasing or that they generally enjoy pension pots up to 40% more than a woman…

My heart goes out to the 50’s born women who didn’t even survive to take their pension.

Thank you Jas….and thank you David.

    Kind regards

Thanks for your contribution. You have been a stalwart supporter of 50swomen and also helped expose the double injustice that millions of men who chose to retire at 60 could get up to five years of national insurance contributions for free. This long running sore needs to come to an end soon or many women will no longer be here to enjoy the fruits of the campaign

Your inability to understand facts of auto credits is a disgrace

The only men who retired at 60 were those who had occupational pensions that enabled them to do so

For most of the time autocredits were available, men required 5 years more NI than men.Women of the same age were already receiving their state pension

You have been repeatedly provided with the reasons why your take is fundamentally flawed and you have repeatedly ignored the facts

Why does an award winning journalist let himself down so badly ?

    • The auto credits were introduced as a temporary measure by Sir Geoffrey Howe and Lady Thatcher to take men out of the then rising unemployment figures. The fact that they remained for men only until 2018 is a disgrace. Women were promised to get them after 2010 when the pension age for them started rising. They never got them

The below quote from the HMRC manual clearly sets out how the eligibility age for autocredits was aligned with the increase in female state pension age.It is not complicated to understand.

        Quote

From 2010 onwards, autocredits were phased out in line with the equalisation of State Pension age (SPa) for men and women. Men will only receive the credits from the year in which they reach the female State Pension age (SPa) and subsequent tax years before age 65. Therefore the last full tax year in which male and female SPas remain different is the tax year 2017 to 2018.

        For example:

a woman born between 6 October and 5 November 1950 reaches SPa on 6 May 2011 – a man born between those dates was therefore given autocredits for the 4 tax years from tax year 2011 to 2012 to tax year 2014 to 2015
a woman born between 6 September and 5 October 1953 reaches SPa on 6 March 2018 – a man born between those dates was therefore given autocredits for the tax year 2017 to 2018, the last year for which autocredits were available
a woman born between 6 October and 5 November 1953 reaches SPa on 6 July 2018 – a man born between those dates will not be entitled to autocredits because the last year for which autocredits will be given is the tax year 2017 to 2018

        Unquote
