Exclusive: BackTo60 and Unison take 3.8 million 50s born women pension demands to Downing Street

From Left to right: Unison’s national pensions officer, Alan Fox; Jackie Jones, Labour MEP for Wales; Sian Stockham, senior vice president Unison and Gloria Mills, national secretary, equalities,Unison., knocking at Downing Street’s door.

A group of leading BackTo60 campaigners and top people from Unison, the public service union, today delivered a personal letter to Boris Johnson calling on him to act to pay out the money owed to 3.8 million women whose pensions have been delayed by up to six years.

The delegation went direct to Downing Street preceded by Larry the Cat to press Boris Johnson to fulfill a pledge that he would look again at the problem for this particular group of women, many of whom have driven to poverty by the decision enacted by successive governments.

They are backed by a petition signed by 177 MPs of all parties calling for a Special temporary measure to grant the money owed without reversing the existing pensions legislation by returning the pension age to 60 for women.

The full delegation were Prof Jackie Jones, Barrister, MEP, Wales; Gloria Mills CBE, National Secretary, UNISON, Equalities, Sian Stockham, Senior Vice-President, UNISON, Alan Fox. National Pensions Officer, UNISON, Joanne Welch, Campaign Director,BackTo60.com and Callum Jones, Undergraduate.

Prof Jones said “It’s beyond time for women to have equal rights and equal financial entitlements for years of service.  Equal pension is part of this.  No way are women going to settle for anything less.”

Gloria Mills said”1950s women deserve their full state pension now and the government should act by using the Temporary Special Measure contained to right this wrong. UNISON the UK’s largest trade union with 1 million women members will continue to fight for pension justice for the 3.8 million women born in the 1950s many of whom are UNISON members.”.

She added: ” The recent idea that people may have to work to 75 is a disgrace to all working people. All these women have been discriminated against all their life by not being able to claim a pension while they are working part time or bringing up a family. Their pensions pots are miniscule compared to many men.”

Jackie Jones MEP and Gloria Mills

Sian Stockham said : ” Some women who just paid the married woman’s pension have been left with the disgraceful sum of just 10p a month which is a disgrace.

Callum Jones, an undergraduate student who joined the delegation said : “It is clear to see that the government is trying to take advantage of vulnerable members of society and if we don’t look after the most vulnerable members of our society what kind of society would we have.”

Delegation including myself in front of Downing Street.

Earlier petitions, one of which reached 728,000, were delivered to former Prime Minister, Theresa May on 3 separate occasions:  It was ignored and this led BackTo60 to succeed in getting o a Judicial Review, held on 5th and 6th June was hthe Royal Courts of Justice,t and the Reserved Judgment is due soon.

In a rather bizarre move this May WASPI Ltd, which also represents some of the women, tried to urge MPs not to sign the motion calling for the restitution of the money to the 3.8 million. They believe the women should only get a bridging loan which will have to be paid back by having reduced pensions for life.

But this action is rather late as 177 MPs have already signed and the motion was delivered to Number Ten demanding full restitution today.

This is the Waspi Ltd statement re the EDM sponsored by Ann McMorrin MP for BackTo60

    • I agree with you entirely. I too have worked for 44 years and was told from the age of 16yrs pension was at 60yrs. Due to increasing ill health I had to give work up but have chosen not to go through the benefits system, pride I suppose and do not want the hassle that would bring. My poor Husband does work still now to support us and he is 67yrs working a 12 hour day in hospital theatre’s. Many times he comes home not eaten his lunch as too busy and he then has an hours motorway drive, I fear for his wellbeing. He does not get the opportunity to cat nap like an MP shown on tv this week cat napping on the benches!

    • Being a farmer’s daughter I was working much earlier than the age I was working for a wage. Yet, with time off from bringing up children – which completely wrecks any career plans you may have, and a mean chauvanist for an employer who gave me no pension rights for over 20 years service – I am suffering from losing nearly £50,000 thanks to a government who continually robbed me. Is this legal?

    • I’ve worked since I was 15. I married at 21 and the then DHSS asked if I wanted to pay a reduced Married Women’s NI or a full rate one to get an enhanced state pension at 60 – I chose the latter. I’ve brought up two children, 6 weeks’ maternity leave with each, I’ve cared for elderly relatives, while working. I’ve been made redundant three, times, got other jobs, I’ve returned to work after life-threatening cancer, I now have three different heart problems. I’m still working, The question of asking me to pay full NI with a false promise is similar to being mis-sold PPI – I was mis-sold full NI contributions. I can’t get Universal Credit when I’m off work unwell as they take into account my husband’s pension. I wrote to my local Labour MP asking her to support the EDM but she refused, as she supports WASPI’s stance.

    • I started work a few days after turning 15, I turned 65 in July and only get my pension in March 2020, I work full time and still pay NIS even though I the full amount of stamps on. I have started with health problems, the government need to understand that most people feel degraded when you have to ask for more time off to attend doctors or hospital appointments due to age related problems and employers are understanding up to a certain degree.

I recently went to my local MP to ask for evidence of the letter that was so supposed to be sent to tell me That I would be working until I am 66 needless to say the Government was unable to find it. We may be living longer but this does not mean we are healthier and the fact they would like to put the pension age up higher still is in hope that we die before we are able to collect our pensions.

Why would we be asking for a ‘bridging loan’..?…..I notice that they do not refer explicitly, to this in their statement..very odd,…What are they playing at ?

I dont want anymore to do with them,I lost my job as they closed down over a year ago,I had to sell my home, I didn’t have much colateol left in it,after having to remortgage a few times to keep me and my children as a one parent, I have had to keep myself since then so nealy all gone now I am 64 worked full time, never claimed, except family credit years ago when my children were small I worked part time for a couple of years,I have no savings for my retirement, it’s all a mess what the government have done to us,I never even had a letter about this,I didn’t know until 6 months before my 60th which I was going part time,my friend told me about it all, they are robbing old people which is shocking and down right heart less.

      • WASPI are not demanding a bridging LOAN. Please do not misrepresent their campaign. WASPI women believe in equality but want the government to address the maladministration of the increases that have been implemented. They want a bridging pension for those not yet at sp age and compensation for those who have already suffered but are now at sp age. They do not want a loan. The two campaigns have different aspirations and constantly condemning the WASPI women only weakens B260s campaign.

I find it hard to understand why any group representing 1950s born women in fighting for the best outcome in fully restoring their lost pensions back to 60 yrs -the agreed and expected state pension age for more than 50 yrs work! You mention WASPI who have splintered into several groups, including a limited company retaining £100,000 plus of members fees-trusting them to act in their best interests-but opposing the only legal option? There are groups with Waspi label who join in #Onevoice with #Backto60. Who join the only legal fight for full restitution of our pensions through EDM2296. Make sure you’re informed at Backto60.com. It’s always a great pleasure to listen to and read your supportive remarks concerning 1950s born women and their fight for pension justice. That’s why I’m puzzled by your reference to Waspi, in your latest article. WaspiCampaign2018 have pushed hard to persuade MPs to sign EDM motion. Please clarify your source of this negative comment, which should certainly not be associated with WaspiCampaign2018.

  9. Back to 60 have done an incredible job for all women born in the 1950’s. They have taken our case to the highest pinnacle making our case heard like never before. As individuals we have little voice but with their tenacity and fight they have rallied us all to believe we will win. We have a voice we deserve what’s due to us and we will win our case, this can no longer be ignored.

Thank you does not seem enough but it is with passion that it’s said. You have all worked so incredibly hard and pushed for what is right. The 50’s women don’t want a bridging loan we want our pensions. Why would any one in their right mind want a bridging loan, which boils down to a nominal amount till we reach the DWP retirement age.

Waspi need to let procedures and outcomes take place from the judicial review. They have a few weeks to go until we should get the judgement. Stirring up another hornets nest defeats what back to 60 are trying to achieve.

At the end of the day your all trying to help the 50’s women but it’s blatantly c!ear the DWP and government struggle to do anything right. So don’t play into their hands, we know what a manipulating unscrupulous shower we have in government and their agencies.

The 50’s women are passionate about getting justice and it’s back to 60 that has made us believe we have the best chance. They have gone about everything professionally and supported our case with evidence that blows the DWPs lies out of the water.

Thank You all in back to 60 for supporting us.

First I paid women’s stamp then married women’s stamp. Then full stamp. For the last 25 years paid full stamp without a break. In the meantime I’ve brought 3 children up and worked part time. My husband has worked full time. So he gets his full pension at 65 and I get promised a pension at 60 then 62 and finally 65. But I’ve paid in all my contributions and more. Who am I keeping definitely not me and mine. Who have all worked and paid in full. Even my children have never been out of work or my brothers or my parents. So who is receiving my pot. Not me 😔😔😔😔

I don’t want a Bridging Loan, to reduce the poverty being robbed of almost 6 years State Pension has caused me and then to pay that Loan back, when I eventually do get my Pension. I remember listening to Radio 4’s – Money Box approx. 2yrs ago and a spokesperson for WASPI said that it was unreasonable for women to expect a full pension / compensation as there are so many other competing needy issues in society and a bridging pension of £60 (or £70 can’t recall for certain which) is in WASPI’s opinion reasonable. It was not just the onions I was chopping at the time that brought tears to my eyes – it was for all those women on the poverty line now having been robbed of their pensions and the long historical gender bias where it is always the woman who has to bend and comprise – equality has long way to go. So, it was with a joyous lift of heart and optimism when the Back to 60’s movement began and I willingly gave to a cause that was clear in its goals. Thank you to the Back to 60’s for running a campaign that does not wish to bend and comprise.

I have had both knees replaced due to osteoarthritis and I cannot ear a pair of shoes for more than 2 hours yet I was femmes fit for work. Please give me my pension now, I don’t know if I can cope without it for another 14 months!

  29. Th government are using the age 75 as a ploy as far as I am concerned. They will put the pension age up to the age of 70 and everyone will start saying ‘thank god it is not 75’ and just accept it! I was born in 1962, have worked 40 years and want my pension at 60 not 65 etc. It is a disgrace. I used to be proud of my country but between the pension, losing a big bit of my mortgage endowment and the way the my employer is dealing with my wage rise I sick to the stomach!

  30. The only thing that is keeping me going is the thought of the fantastic effort being made by Backto60 to right the wrong done to 50s women. In my younger days, as a single parent, I tried to make sensible financial provision to protect myself and my daughter should I be unable to work. At the age of 50, I did become ill, but fortunately I had insurance to allow me to survive comfortably. However I had set it up to end at state pension age, which as far as I knew in 1996 was age 60. I am now 64, struggling, working two jobs, occasionally three and I can’t make ends meet. I am currently applying for full-time permanent jobs in desperation – what are the chances do you think? We women have been discriminated against our whole lives, and now under the guise of granting us equality we are expected to buy it, with our very hard earned money.
Would 3.8 million men have put up with this? I think not!!!
Thank you for all you are doing.

  31. David, I have followed your reports on 1950s women’s pensions and have offered you my thanks more than once for your sterling efforts to support our cause. Consequently, I am appalled by your total misinterpretation of Waspi’s statement.
You state: ‘WASPI . . . believe the women should only get a bridging loan which will have to be paid back by having reduced pensions for life’, but that is not what the statement says. There is no mention of a bridging loan, they ask for a bridging pension – totally different. Nor is there anything about a reduced pension for life as a consequence.
I have lost patience with Waspi over time but I am shocked and disturbed that you could so blatantly misrepresent their words. It cannot be a simple mistake and it leaves me wondering why you have made such a divisive move.

  34. Didn’t George Osborne say that extending the age at which women should receive their pension….was the quickest so many billions he had ever made?
To me, that expressed the total disdain held for the lives of millions of women who have had the misfortune to be born in the 1950’s.
This ruling was a reckless move and without any consideration as to the impact that such a change would actually mean to the lives of millions of women.

  36. Well done! It is not that we have just been robbed of our pension – in my case the first to be pushed to 66 years, but we missed out on equal pay until late in my career, no payed maternity leave, short contracts for many years without benefits and the lack of any time to make up pension shortfalls. Cut backs across the public sector meant early retirement with reduced work pension at just short of 60. So it is a fact that we have not had the opportunity to ensure we can support ourselves at a time in our lives when arthritis and other more serious health issues are already making life more difficult. Thank you for taking our case to court and to two successive Prime Ministers. Pĺease let me know when you need more financial support to continue to fight our corner.

  41. I recall Waspi asking for a £60-£70 week bridge on 50’s womens pension to give them something each week to ease the pressure. No matter what the title they wish to use, whether bridging loan or bridging pension. Bridging is bridging its a link to give women something each week whilst they work till they reach the new pension age.

David I may be wrong but I see it that if the 50’s women accepted this bridging pension we would be paying it back. If you only get £60- £70 each week as a bridging pension when you were entitled to £168 week your giving the government £100 each week of which we should have had.

The clear points are 50’s born women are entitled to their state pension. They did nothing wrong they followed the rules. However the rules were changed and the government and its department DWP falsified information. They hoped we would put up and shut up like we’ve been brain washed to do all our lives.

The 50’s women want what’s due not a nominal amount to ease their suffering. For the first time in my life this government have raised in me a passion for justice and reading the 50’s women’s responses they have this same passion and fire. We will not be subdued with some paltry financial carrot dangled in front of us. Were sick to death of being treated like easy targets.

Back to 60 have been the catalyst to lighting our touch paper. There journalism uncovered some of the most appalling cover ups ever read. They identified the falsified information, the dis respectful comments from MP’s, the missing national insurance that somehow vanished into Pandoras box. The back to 60 legal team have done us proud our case is out there, our case to be judged upon.

We just have to be patient for few more weeks when the judgment is given. Were all tired, were all wanting an end to this, we all want some quality of life back. We just need to keep positive and support each other.

  42. Whilst David has added Ltd to the statement:-“In a rather bizarre move yesterday WASPI (Ltd.) which also represents some of the women, tried to urge MPs not to sign the motion calling for the restitution of the money to the 3.8 million. They believe the women should only get a bridging loan which will have to be paid back by having reduced pensions for life”. I, as co-founder of the Waspi Campaign, feel it is imperative to comment and clarify matters.

Although the ask of Waspi Campaign 2018, (totally autonomous from Waspi Ltd.) is “to achieve fair transitional state pension arrangements for all women born in the 1950s affected by the changes to the state pension law (1995/2011 Acts). This translates into a ‘bridging’ pension to provide an income until State Pension Age – not means-tested – and with recompense for losses for those women who have already reached their SPA. There are no specific age groups within the period mentioned above that are favoured above others”, we support the EDM in question and the JR. We have always done so, as our statements on our website’s Action page (EDM) and News page testify. http://www.waspicampaign2018.co.uk Furthermore, the malicious rumour in relation to bridging loan was first Tweeted by someone purporting to be a Back to 60s supporter who refused to retract her tweet despite being informed of the facts.

Just because our ask is different from that of Back to 60 this does not influence us in wanting a speedy resolution to this grave injustice, that was unearthed way back in 2015 by the Waspi co-founders.

Furthermore, it was Waspi Campaign 2018 who initiated the successful collaboration between ourselves, Back to 60 and We Paid In, You Pay Out. in July last year and instigated the rally and demonstration, our first joint venture in London on the 10th October last year. Our statement in relation to this is also on our website’s News page.

It appears that somebody is deliberately trying to discredit the Waspi Campaign 2018. Why is nobody’s guess. However, they should be ashamed of themselves for causing further upset and distress to women whose lives have been turned upside down and are devastated.

    • Firstly I thank you for clarifying the difference between Waspi and Waspi Ltd. I have not followed the two Waspi groups moreover I had no idea there were 2 groups and I’m sure I will not be on my own in not realising that.
I totally agree on your comments regarding anyone trying to discredit any actions of any group at this moment in time. There malicious acts serve no benefits to the 50’s women who have suffered enough. They should be not only ashamed of themselves but should look at the damage they are doing to the case.
Were all in this together wanting a solution to this injustice.
However I find it somewhat confusing as to why Waspi Ltd are doing anything until the judicial review judgement is given. This time before our judgement is made would of been a prime time to prepare for ways forward.
Once the 50’s women know the outcome and if it was the worst case scenario then Waspi Ltd, Waspi, Back to 60 need to work together to build on an appeal. In the event of a positive result for the back to 60 judicial review its then not over. Many changes have happened to pensions including the recent change to those losing a partner at pension age. Pension credit we’ve missed out on , bus passes etc .
My concern is like yours we need a solution to this devastation on the 50’s women. We do not need to give this government any other ideal than we are a united front all working for justice. To many 50’s women have suffered and are suffering enough solidarity is the way forward.

Like most of you I have worked since I was 15 and led to believe I would collect my Pension at 60. I divorced years ago at that time I never thought I would be relying so much on my deserved pension that I am still paying into re N. I. Contributions. As for a private pension on one wage I could not afford to take one out. I work full time, I have Cervical Spondoloysis, arthritis in my spine and have just been diagnosed with Carpel Tunnel Syndrome. My job is sitting at a desk most of the day, I wake up in agony go to bed in agony but I still get to work. I do not want sympathy, I want what is rightfully mine I have paid in they must pay out. I hope we can get this not a bridging loan but what we have earned our Pension. Fingers crossed ladies.

  50. I gave up with WASPI in 2018, as all you got were complex emails about no confidence in the ‘current board’ and each side falling out. Nothing to do with 1950’s women’s pensions. Backto60 have achieved so much more by getting this judicial review and getting unison (my union) on board. Like many, I will have to wait until I am 66 and 4 months (! why four months). I am almost 63 now, with a degenerative disease of the spine, I have a small LGPS pension but I cannot survive on £9K a year if I take early retirement. All through the 70’s 80’s 90’s and even the 00’s, when joining pensions/or planning for retirement the phrase was “don’t forget you will get your state pension at 60.” This government can afford it,if it can find money for the HS2 project, it can fund our promised pension from age 60 for those women born in the 1950’s.

  53. What a journey this has been for Backto60 campaigners. Having to crowdfund to get a Judicial Review puts politicians to shame but has given hope to those affected. Successive governments had an opportunity to put things right on many occasions, and made it worse when they added on another year. The unbearable hardship experienced by so many should not be prolonged. Anger and blame needn’t be indulged any longer, these women have a right to see a positive outcome now and receive the state pension they believed and trusted would be due to them in full so they can get on with their lives as they have a right to and not be left feeling like they are getting (humiliating) handouts in the form of benefits or loans. 55. How can this appeal truly portray the injustice of pension issues when articles such as this use such flippant commentary?
A delegation of people representing 3.8 million victims enter Downing Street and you
make a silly-season comment saying they were ‘preceded by Larry the cat’.
I, for one, find your humour misplaced at best. It implies that this appeal is not really much of an event. Would you have used the same phrase if a delegation representing male engineers, manufacturers or educationalists had arrived to raise issues in respect of financial injustice? Or a mismanagement of funds scandal? I suspect not.
Does the impact of pension age affect any women in your life? Your mum, grandma, wife, aunt(s), neighbours et al? It doesn’t affect you personally which is why you can afford to be so smug.

I’m 65years old and do not get my state pension until march 2020 .I’m currently working as a carer for the elderly in a residential home which is very hard, after I finish a 12hr shift I’m in so much pain and need my medication to get through the shift . I never thought I would be working this long. I have no private pension so have no choice but to carry on working and wishing my life away .

  79. I was born in September 1952, worked 41 years. Planned and expected to retire at 60, but had to wait additional 28 months for state pension – lost approx £14k – very hard time. Discriminatied again when new state pension introduced (born 6 months too early) so £40 PER WEEK loss!!!! This change was brought forward and also introduced earlier for women than men. Definitely AGE DISCRIMINATION. Women didn’t have time to plan or prepare for that. Women have been fighting for their rights for over 100 years. We didn’t do anything wrong – we worked hard and in many cases at the same time brought up families, cared for elderly and sick parents. Surely this must count for something. I hope that PM MrJohnson does hear our voice and agrees to make restitution to 1950s women – we have earned it, we want it and we will not give up until we get it.

  82. Thank you all for fighting for the injustice us women of the 1950’s and what we are having to put up with as no one knows what’s it like unless they are going through it themself – the hardship of not receiving their State pension as was expected at 60 but not unable to do so until 66 !!!!!Yes there are people who comment negatively about our cause but they actually have no idea what they are talking about as it’s not happening to them or anyone close to them or they would know the reality of the pain, heartache and hardship is real and unfair and happening right now -they just presume and carry on to the next cause!!!! What matters we women of the 50’s stick together and fight for justice for every single one of us and to be heard where it matters…….together we will make a difference-we have nothing else to loose as the Gov has taken away our dignity of being able to look after ourselves in our retirement years by taking away the pension we have worked for and was rightly ours……we were not told to budget accordingly! I am 64-lost my husband 5 years ago…….I have used the savings we had saved to enjoy our retirement together to try and survive these traumatic years of living alone with no money coming in and being unwell because of anxiety and stress caused with all the worry how to carry on with still 2 years to go till I get my state pension ……..then I may not be entitled or inherit any of the 45 years of N.I. stamps my husband had …….there is no help after the first 52 weeks of receiving a bereavement allowance……..nothing there for us widows only available if I was on my pension…….I thought at 60 I was getting my State pension-I received no correspondence at the time stating otherwise…….hence the injustice !!
Once again thank you all for giving us a Voice…….we want to be heard NOW!!!!!!!!!

  83. We worked hard and were not rewarded. Some women are not able to work beyond 60 years especially in manual jobs. Many are also providing care to very old parents and to grandchildren which impacts their ability to earn and their own health. It’s a grave injustice to deprive them of pension for 6 years and without warning. Many are in poverty.

If I went out and robbed a bank of that amount I would be doing time behind bars its scandalous what the DWP have done to us 50s ladies worked since 15 paid in got a unbroken record as not been able to have children. I cannot believe I went online to the hmrc site yesterday and it said you need to pay another years NIS to get the full state pension I have worked 46 and half years solid already and more of the qualifying years which is set at 35( correct me if I’m wrong) but it’s time this mess was sorted out I feel like 3. 8 million women out there that I am getting punished for being a Women and being born in the 50s.1955….

If men had been paid less than women, had been passed over for promotions because of their gender, had been required to get the approval of a female relative for a loan, had been expected to bear major caring responsibilities for young children and ageing parents and had generally been patronised throughout their lives, the male majority of Members of Parliament would never have voted for the cruel changes they so gleefully decided to impose, without either fair or adequate notice. I hope those who now claim to support 1950s women are not doing it purely for political gain. It is time to “man-up” and undo the significant damage they have done to those women born in the 1950s, who, for once in their lives, deserve a break. Many thanks to all genuine campaigners.

Look at tbis realistically women have always been the poor relations regarding pensions. Women no matter who says different their bodies get worn out. Having current caring for them caring for the home and working full time.

It is ok for younger people who will have had 30 years or more to prepare-top up workplace pensions etc.. but for 50s ladies 66 is totally unacceptable. The speed this was imposed and lack of notification. As has been mentioned many times the discrimination women faced historically etc… will Ian Duncan Smith work until he is 75? Ridiculous suggestion and he had to have a Think Tank to conclude such a stupid idea. I really despair as to what motivates our government, common sense seems to fly out of the window. Thank goodness for Backto60 , Unison and David who really seems to understand the awfulness of this situation. I would love to be a volunteer but too exhausted to work and volunteer. Seeing what I see in my every day work, I truly believe the government/ DWP raised the pension age in the hope that by doing so, a lot of us would not be around to receive our state pension. When I started work, my pension age was meant to be 60. By now, I should be getting £730 a month state pension. I love my work but I don’t want to die before I get chance to have what is rightfully mine.

It was “stolen” from male tax-payers, who had to work five years longer than you and your fellow females, despite on average dying five years earlier, thereby receiving ten years less pension, and this despite on average work twice as hard as on average do your fellow females.

  99. I absolutely agree we women have had the biggest raw deal regarding this miss judgement of our pension given to us by our own government in our life time.

We also left school at 15 years of age not 16 years so another 12 months of our worked life has been added to the greedy government’s pot of money.

If this is how it is going to be i feel saddened for the hardship of many women who have become ill in their later lives some of which will not be alive today or in the near future.

The M.P.’s that are acting for us and all the other men and women behind the scenes i thank you for all the time effort and hard work you have done. We together will never give up hope on this injustice brought upon us and we will never give up supporting this cause.

  100. Like you all I patiently await the judgement on our pension review. The passion of us all to get what’s rightfully ours is heartwarming. We can achieve anything when we pull together and work as one.
I think it advisable that until we receive the outcome on our judgement we do not muddy the ground with other groups pulling in other directions.
My concerns are clear, we know what trickery this government and it’s agencies pull. They will be elated at an easy option out of the scenario they’re now in. Naturally they would jump at the chance of paying us some token pension. Well they can forget that, we are owed the full state pension and that’s what we will get. So the fight will go on and on until the government sorts it out.
Back to 60 have added strength to our cause they’ve fought hard to uncover lies, fraudulent activity and calculated malpractice and discrimination.
Any group stirring up a hornet’s nest and making any other claims at this precise moment in time makes no sense at all. I struggle to understand why any group would want any other than to await the judicial judgement.
I can’t help but think with the government think tank suddenly wanting to increase state pension to 75 and now a supposed Waspi Ltd statement are all a ploy to stir up ill feeling and take the high priority from our case. Distracting from the task in hand.
We all want the judicial outcome and have a few weeks to go. We all want and deserve quality of life and to live and enjoy our final years.
We don’t deserve the hand we’ve been dealt but justice will out.

It would be great to have them back us up too. The only comments I’ve heard were the post on the radio via these emails from David.

  102. I totally agree with the actions Back to 60 are taking.
I have Asperger’s Syndrome, (mild autism), and I’ve read only 16% of adults with that diagnosis are in full time employment.
Due to unremitting anxiety, an eating disorder, and hearing voices, I wasn’t able to cope with a full time job until I was in my thirties.
It then came as a terrible shock to realise that I would have to work until I was 66.
I also have twin grandchildren, 19 months old, and have cashed in my private pension so I can drop a day a week, to look after them one day a week.
There must be many other women, who have an invisible disability, who are having this injustice imposed on them.
We mustn’t let the government get away with this.

  103. Constantly trying to increase state pension age will devastate families even more. Like many grandparents I look after my daughter’s children two days a week. I dropped days at work by taking my work pension early so my daughter and son in law could afford a shared ownership property. I have built a wonderful bond with my grandchildren but if state pension isn’t paid until 70 how will families cope? Intergenerational relationships are so important and yet they are being destroyed with misleading comments such as ” working until 70 is good for you” . Let’s go back a step and cherish our families and let the kids cook buns with grandma not go to after school clubs. I want to enjoy my grandchildren as long as possible but my health is poor even though I am “only” 64. Still another 17 months to go , who would have thought that older age was going to be so traumatic? Even if it was revised to 63 that would be such a help. Please please let JR decision be fair.

I still have heard from DWP and I’m 2 yrs over the pension date. And there is no excuse. They sent me my self assessment every year. If it is to be added on and made 63 . They should at least give people 15 to 20 yrs notice. I’ve had none. Found out on a waspi bill board . A couple of months before. And it stinks . I’ve worked since I was 14 . Went to school 4 yrs 1 day old and paid my stamps . It should be reinstated for all . And notify the age to people that were born later than 1950/ 1960

I was trying to suggest a compromise – I should have retired at 60 so I have already worked over 4 and a half years past that. If it was 63 instead of another 4years you would only have to wait one. Of course, back to 60 would be the fairest let’s wait and see. It is tough.

    • Hi Sheila
I hope you didn’t think I knew what you meant. And yes I do say what your saying. And it hasn’t been good for any of us . You have obviously waited for 4 yrs or more . So you have know 4 yrs . That’s the point I was trying to make . Was I wasn’t even told still haven’t been informed by DWP . And no pension for 2yrs . You have know four 4 and have survived. Which is not good one bit . To me there should be a minimum of 10 to 15 yrs notice so people can make amends or try to . I have also said if my pension was reinstated. I would be well happy and not worried about compensation. But obviously people that are already having their pensions. Would want the compensation. I have also . Said a remark . Which didn’t go down to well . Someone moaning they only had £4.99 rise . If I was having my pension. I would gladly give up the rise . So others that got no pension. Will get something. The problem is we are all in different situations. And that’s where people won’t agree. So please don’t think I was having a go at you . Because I certainly wouldn’t do that . And to be honest with you. We would all like all our money back . But I really don’t think they will reinstate and compensate. But that’s purely my view. Take care . But I have always had a premonition that our money is going to be reinstated by November. Fingers crossed

I am disgusted that I had to pay £6.60 for a return ticket for me but if I lived in Scotland or London or other parts of England I would have free travel. So unfair and as I am unable to work due to ill-health I have low income. I can apply for a Blue Badge and I have been told that will entitle me to free bus travel of I am deemed eligble. So able-bodies individuals elsewhere can hop on a bus whereas I have to “prove” I have difficulty walking a certain distance at the age of 64 year and 7 months. Why is everything so unfair? Now I have to pay for a photo incase I am successful, more expense I can barely afford. Also, the winter fuel allowance was paid to everyone over 60 even if they were in full-time work, I live on my own in a cold, rural property but will not get a penny until I am 66. Money was given out to all and sundry now people who really need help are tossed aside.

  111. I finally start getting my pension later this month on 19 September. I applied online in June and did not hear anything apart from the initial response giving me a reference number and saying my application had been dealt with. When I made enquiries by telephone last week I was told that it hadn’t been activated! I was also informed that I would not get a full pension because I only qualified for 30 years but I could buy another 5 years if I wanted to. When I said I had never received notice that to get a full pension I needed 35 years in stamps I was told it was “ON THE NEWS AND I SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRO-ACTIVE’ If I decided to pay the extra 5 years it would take 15 years to break even, I’ll be almost 81 years old by then, if I’m still here! So not only has my pension been stolen for 5.5years they’ve also added another 5 years, they are stealing almost £25 a week every week from the pension that I now get. They should all be ashamed of themselves. I’m one of the lucky ones who has a supportive husband but so many women in our age group are on their own and have to continue to work that makes this whole thing even more disgraceful. The people who implemented this should be ashamed of themselves!

      • Hi everyone, I will be 63 next month and have worked firstly in Saturday jobs, extremely low paid, since I was 12 then when I left school I started work full time until I had my children. When I asked my employer, Glasgow Corporation, could I go back to work after having my first baby, I was told that under no circumstances could I keep working as it was my job to be at home with my children. After having my children I worked part time until they were old enough for me to return to work full time. I have just checked my pension projection with HMRC to see that I have 44 years fully paid. I will be entitled to £8900.62 as I am now 63 next month I will be owed £ 26,701.66 and I still have another 3 years to go which means I will have lost over £53,000.00. I feel like chaining myself to parliament gates like the suffragettes. It seems nothing has changed for us women despite being in the 21st century. The politicians should be ashamed of themselves but a big thank you to Back to 60 keep up the good work as we need you.

I should be entitled to PIP & Motability (because due to Neuropathy in both feet I can’t drive) but because I’m borderline; have to rely on my son helping me out financially; physically! I live in the Countryside & have to rely on taxis, which as you can imagine is expensive, so I only get out of the house once a week.

I have never been as depressed as I am now, as my health is continuing to deteriorate, so being on benefits; not getting my pension, is only making life significantly stressful; miserable!

I feel like many others that the Women born in the 1950’s have been targeted in such a way which is criminal. Many of us didn’t receive any information about our pensions until it was too late. I feel very cheated & it’s time the Government stepped up to help those that are in a similar position to me. There are many of us that are borderline Disabled, but because the Tory Government have increased the criteria to such a degree we are prisoners in our own homes.

It would save the Govt a fortune if we could look after our elderly parent and keep them out if the care system it’s sex discrimination men born jn the 50’s had an increase of one year but women born in the 50’s had an increase of 6 years, how can that be fair. I hope the government see sense and bring the retirement age back down

I’m 65 and 6 months had my state pension deferred twice!! How is this fair? Also made redundant in 2017 now working two jobs I want what I’m owed for past 5 half years.

Shameful that 50’s women are exploited by greedy and unscrupulous politicians. They ate supposed to represent the people and fight for justice, not refuse to stand up for what is clearly an injustice and immoral stand. DO what is right now, whilst these women are still alive to benefit from what they have worked for and earned. YOU can sort this if you want to and believe it should be rectified. I sure certain people (my own MP included) hope that, like Brexit, if they ignore us and dither for long enough, we’ll just go away and let them have their own way. I appreciate you proving that will not be the case and am heartened and encouraged by the involvement of 3rd parties. The government should not be the only organisation allowed to renege on contracts honoured for 40 years plus by one party when anyone else would face prison sentences for what they have done. I am so impressed by what you have all achieved to date – here’s to justice really being done!

    • I have commented before and its so heartbreaking reading other women’s comments and struggles as myself having no pension in the years one expected to retire to enjoy life not struggle and worry about money -I lost my husband few years ago when I was 58 and have no idea if I can inherit my husband’s N.I. contributions to make up my shortfall to make up my pension which I will receive when I am 66- having raised a family and helping out with my grandkids! I have written months ago but have not received and answer to questions asked-hence what happened earlier and to all of us women of the 50’s no warning no correspondence was given to say I would not receive my pension at 60-just hearsay tom friends in similar situation having happened to them-thankfully we have campaigns highlighting our fight for justice !!!!!! I have no income coming in and spent the little savings we had saved towards plans we had made for our retirement together-what now??The little hope I have is we will receive justice and are paid back the money we have lost just because we are women born in the 50’s !!!! They say they don’t have the money to do this but you hear on the news when there is a disaster in another country the money becomes readily available and is given to help this comes from somewhere surely charity begins at home so to speak-afterall we only want back what was ours in the first place……we need help NOW !!All we want is what we were all expecting a pension at 60 not 66!!!!!!!The injust one reads in the comments on this website is real and happening now – proof we are struggling to live or exist from day to day when life should have been easier as all pensioners before us have enjoyed their later years of life and did not have to fight for what is rightly ours and what we were promised-the goalposts were moved-no help given to the women it affected just told on the news in the papers -together we have a voice-I hope we will make news headlines soon that we have been heard -every woman’s comment added will tmake a difference-United we are not giving up-we cannot as women’s lives depend on this outcome to be the right one!!!!!Thank you all who are fighting our plight…….together we unite — eventually they will have to listen…….we are not giving up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  135. The campaign is an obscenity. Women have long been hugely overpaid in pension given that 1. they retired five years earlier than men, 2. women on average get five years more pension than men because on average they live five years longer, & 3. women on average put in half the tax men do. Given these facts, genuine equality of women vis-a-vis men would mean they should not get any pension until they’re 71, not 66, and paid at half rate! [Yes, it’d be crazy, but it’s the WASPIs who are calling for true equality.]
On top of all that, most women are subsidised by men so that women, unlike men, have the choice of working part-time or not at all, and in nice jobs that don’t have to entail maximising income, yet they still enjoy a lifestyle of the sort that requires full-time work in a competitive occupation (that men are obliged to do, not choose) — oh, and this continues when they walk out and instead of giving their fellah a refund claim endless alimony … and, get this, part of his pension!
The inequalities are all in the other direction to what the WASPIs reckon. It is an appalling scandal that it has taken so long to bring the female pension age up to 65, which anyway is not remotely equality, as I’ve explained. Women need to grow up and stop imagining that they can be just walking over-entitlement lobbies. ‘Human rights’ my butt; it’s female having-cake-and-eating it, all over. Life is just one long gravy train if you’re female!

    • I couldn’t disagree more with your views. Also some of your writings on your site that only men are competitive and denigration of the women’s rights movement are well out of line for the 21st century. This is an age when we have women fire chiefs, chief constables and detectives and they can fight in the armed forces. The idea that all male company boards are the only solution for competitive Britain is absurd.

      Liked by 1 person

      • And ‘straw man’ of the year prize is awarded for the one about company boards. Nowhere have I argued even for men on company boards, never mind for them to be all men! The issue is the ignorant assumption that boards need to reflect the population when the sort of people who merit being on company boards are very unlike the population, and women on company boards — those even merely agreeing to it, never mind wanting to, or actually with the merit — are as unlike the vast majority of women as it’s possible to be. I research and write about the biological roots of human sociality and psychology, with a special interest in the sexes, and I can tell you that the evidence is overwhelming that competitiveness is a foundationally male trait and imperative, applying to most of what males do and are about. For females, competitiveness is highly restricted: female intra-sexual competitiveness for high mate-value pair-bond partners.
As for ‘women’s rights’, not a single tenet of feminism withstands scrutiny, and that goes for Wollstonecraft and the suffragettes, as well as the current extreme bigot numpties. It’s hate-mongering Left backlash at root. Calling it out is anything but unwarranted denigration.

Bloody beck and call . Work clean feed the children and a lot bloody more. Christ what a silver spoon prat he his. I would dread to be his wife . He would have her over the scrubbing board in labour. And another thing Steven. When they changed the goal posy fof women. In 1995 2002 2005 2011 we were not told a bloody thing . Im still waiting for my letter yes . 2 yrs over my retirement date . It’s all bloody underhand. I only found out on a bill board. So if these dirty underhand politicians. Didn’t hid this from us. Some of us . Maybe would have been able to adjust. And that’s a maybe. • We’ll Steve haven’t you stuck your head in a hornet’s nest here but maybe it gives you some sense of achievement.
Firstly I apologise for God not giving you the kit to have children. I’m sure it was his greatest oversight. Had the shoe been on the other foot maybe it would have been a very different world.
Secondly it is abundantly clear you have had a painful time at the hands of a woman or women in general. So I suggest you try to digest what you’ve said and this may give you an idea as to where your going wrong.
Thirdly women born in the 50’s were brought up to treat men like god’s. Men were the breadwinners women the child rearing, home making second rate citizens that covered all menial tasks dished out to them. The era was women had to put up and shut up and had no voice.
That time has gone, women thank God are in the highest paid jobs. They don’t have to work at the same job getting less pay because equality is here.
We had no equality, we had no voice. We do now… and we will use them. Sorry that may also be your problem.
Males supporting our cause know what the 50’s women have been through. They also know our pensions were fraudulently taken from us by the government.
I suggest whilst you sit typing out your next venomous message you read up on history.

You need to read up on the research into women and work. Catherine Hakim is the leading expert: several very good, detailed recent books. The pattern of work of women today is hardly much changed to decades ago. The great majority of women wish to work part-time if at all, and in jobs that fit with their lives and with good conditions. Their criteria is not pay, prospects, career. This becomes ever more the case the higher the proportion of women feel obliged to work. Hence the ‘gender pay gap’ [sic] has been rising in Sweden since the mid 1980s.
Men & women don’t change; only dumb ideology.

Sorting the drivers and trucks out. And done it for 3 yrs on my own . But then again. My husband was away 5 days a week. Yes so it was all down to me . And then started another Buisness. Employed 4 men 1 women. Another 7 day a week job. And paid my stamps up to day. So that’s my point . We don’t all go to work for 8 hrs a day . And I probably would have had . I have worked since I was seventeen, had 3 children and continued to work alongside raising them and took on the majority of the household running. I have cared for my Mother as her health declined and supported my daughter and her children following a divorce. Thankfully my health is good but I feel that I will have earned my pension having worked since 1972 when I finally receive it next year. All be it I will have lost approximately £50.232 in the six years extended wait.

    • Well of course you see the presentation of reality as tongue-in-cheek; such are the evolved default pro-female (and anti-male) attitudes we all share blinding us to it.
If you were to get pension payment to cover the years from aged 60 to 66, then I would be owed the same for the same period. It’s called equality. It’s strange that the very people screaming for it here are unaware of it. But that’s those evolved default pro-female (and anti-male) attitudes for you.
Actually, of course, I’d require a payment from aged 55, given that I’m likely to die five years earlier than you. And really at twice the rate, since my sex puts in twice what yours does ….. all in the name of equality, again. And don’t look askance at me: I wasn’t the one who opened this can of worms.

Your life must be incredibly sad but as they say life is what you make it. You certainly wish to make yours and others a misery. So I suggest the back to 50’s women give you the space and response you deserve…NONE.

May I also suggest you get a job where you need to work long shifts as you have far to much time on your hands. You obviously need to keep yourself occupied.

Who knows if you changed your attitude you might actually get to like women, however that is extremely doubtful.

In the mean time get a life.

First you need to understand the basis of the sexes and how they are in some ways very separate and in others ‘symbiotic’, as it were. Otherwise notions about equality are way off the mark.

I have been working since the age of 15 paid my taxes N.I. I just hope I’m wrong but I really can’t see them paying us back what we are entitled too.

We might get some sort of top-up but even that’s going to be hard going.

I’ve been in this position for the last 5 half years!! Wishing your life away counting down the months years from the age of 60 it’s not nice and I’m sure that’s what everyone else is doing as well it’s a waiting game.

The best way to deal with this is too let them know how we feel by our vote the election is coming and you got to blame the labour government for starting this off with no thought and no care of the 1950’s women some are too sick to work some have two jobs and some are carrying on regardless.

But we have the vote they want us to go away but we won’t we will keep plugging away till they recognise we are standing up for ourselves if this was men who had to wait 5-6 years for there state pension the unions would be fighting there corner all the way. Yes, we’ve had support but not enough from the right people.

Don’t let them get you down vote with you mind not your heart weigh up who to vote for and make the right decision for you.

Also I said when was you expecting to retire . He said 65. Not 67 . Well there’s your answer then ours was due at 60 . Not 66 . That’s 4yrs extra . And you had kids who look after them . There’s another answer. Tomorrow when you come home from work . Your cooking your own dinner and washing your clothes & dishes, debate over I might add . And then I said . I’ve waited 2 yrs si same as you. . So I should have my pension now. You always expected yours at 65. He was only joking though . I truly believe. They Didnt give us our pensions back . Because the men would have said . Not all but we won’t ours back dated to 65 . More money for them to pay . Our argument was we haven’t been told for over 20 yrs . If we had some of us could have made provisions. Another problem who do you vote for labour and the tories have been in all the time the law was changed. So to me there is a big problem with all parties. It’s all hidden from us . Whether pensions or different policies. We never know . And we the people are the voters so before they change laws we should all be allowed to vote . Parties in your own area’s. Lie to get votes . Tell people anything. And then do nothing

But Brexit has taken over everything. My husband has supported me he’s the last group of men to get his pension before it goes up wait for it one year!! For men.

I have only just got mine after waiting 5 years and 7 months they pushed the pension age extended another 18 months when I reach 53!!

I just feel it’s about justice, which we don’t have why is this not in the news or documentaries made about all the women on there own with no support how there going to cope? I’ve heard there sending people for apprenticeship at over 60 to retrain where are the jobs for these people.

  141. Hi David
I am trying to get an answer about this 18 month wait for our SP.
Nobody is replying to me, after asking 3 MP’s including JR-Mogg MP. He is the one that commented after the High Court decision mentioning it.
Jackie Jones MEP, and Chris Elmore. MP
Can you please question it, as not one of the 50’s Ladies are waiting f 18 months, its 6 years minimum.
